Children with Autism: Early Intervention through Early Identification!


The Summit Centre for Preschool Children with Autism is pleased to announce that
Dr. Lonnie Zwaigenbaum, one of Canada’s leading autism researchers, has agreed to travel to Windsor to speak with our physicians, professionals and families living and working with children with Autism.

Dr. Zwaigenbaum is a Developmental Pediatrician and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta, where he holds the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation Endowed Chair in Autism Research. He is the Co-director of the Autism Research Centre at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, the principal investigator in the Canadian Infant Sibling Study and Vice President of the International Society for Autism Research. Physicians’ Reception, Mon. June 4, 2012, 5 to 6 p.m., at the Caboto Club

Dr. Zwaigenbaum will;

•identify the specific risk markers that aid in identifying very young children at risk for Autism

•highlight the evidence-based treatment approaches that have the best prognosis for very young children

•answer physicians’ questions about genetics and incidence in siblings

•address how to include early screening measures in well-baby care

•how to reassure parents while making referrals

•how to respond to frequently asked questions including “What do I say to parents who are afraid to vaccinate their children?”

Optional: $10 pasta dinner for purchase, 5-7 p.m.

6:30 p.m.: Dr. Zwaigenbaum will speak to parents, caregivers, teachers, health professionals, and community members. He will focus on what we can do as a community to;

•identify children with Autism Spectrum Disorders as early as possible

•provide earlier evidence-based interventions

•support families

•work together to make Windsor/Essex a Centre of Excellence in Autism
